Secondary School Projects
Waseley School

“Another View' - with photographer Brian Gibson, explored a journey from a secondary school on the outer edges of Birmingham into its heart and out the other side – observing its people, culture and characteristics with disposable cameras and a notebook – We looked for ways of discussing and expressing these individual observations through imagery, colour and light. We made a 12metre long double sided wall of canvas and hung it snake like through a space . The journey took the observer from rural outskirts by train into a shiny newly modelled city environment – to a Balti house for lunch – and into the backstreets between Victorian stained glass and urban graffiti.
Carole works in primary and secondary schools on visual art projects making site specific installations. Discussion, drawing and photography are a starting point to inspire ideas around a theme and this raw material becomes the imagery for screenprints, digital prints, projections and paintings.
She works collaboratively with the students and uses techniques which often surprise students who have previously thought they were 'no good at art' . She also shows staff how to understand and incorporate these techniques simply and inexpensively into the classroom.  She has worked with photographers, filmmakers, poets , theatre designers, dancers and musicians.
