Carole Waller and the Exhibiton..........not so fast!

The Octagon is a rare space to find in Bath. It’s current use as a space for temporary art exhibitions allows its own evocative atmosphere to be felt without the imposition of specific retail branding. Its strong spiritual connections and our consciousness of its history emanate gently from the faded walls – It was an unconsecrated church , with a wine merchant in the vaults, and in the 1890s became an antique shop and then a food office during World War 11.It was the home of the Royal Photographic Society from the 1980s until 2000. In 2008 to 2009 it was converted for retail use but has not been fully refurbished. The wall surfaces vary , there are nooks and crannies , it is beautiful , cold and quiet.

The building itself was the basis for my choice of artists in Not So Fast !

I am interested in the unfinished atmosphere – as if the place is in limbo and it fits my interest in art and design which is difficult to categorise . I invited artists whose work I was able to imagine sitting in the space very comfortably.
