Workshops and Short Courses

in Screen Printing and Painting for 2009/10.

Carole Waller teaches painting and screenprinting on cloth from her studio near Bath.

A six week evening course, weekend and five day courses are available – and she can also run workshops or special projects elsewhere as long as there is running water and a flat surface!
All abilities welcome.

Carole teaches at Bath Spa University and West Dean College near Chichester.

All courses teach painting and screenprinting on a range of silks, cottons and wool fabrics with an emphasis on encouraging students to find their own visual language through the use of dyes , pigments, transfer printing, screenwork a variety of stencils including photographic. Techniques are easy to understand and are fun to work with whether you are a complete novice or an experienced artist, textile artist, designer or craftsperson.

Six Week Evening Courses

For anyone who wants to have fun working with colour and cloth

Evening classes are on Tuesdays 6-8.30
and continue throughout 2010

No experience is required
Students who have some experience can work at their own pace on their own projects and new students will be taught through demonstrations these easy techniques.

Each week a new fabric and technique will be introduced and you will be able to make a scarf or a sample piece to use in any way you wish in each session. Painting, screenprint, transfer printing,monoprinting and the use of foils and textured pigments will be included. Fabrics will include silk, organic cotton, velvets, fleece and found fabrics for upcycling!

Day 1
Making marks using various techniques including simple screen printing
and painting to discover and understand the use of dyes on un-primed cloth
.

Day 2
Developing the previous days discoveries into a personal project,
and learning how to steam and finish cloth.

£165 including lunch and basic materials

Full payment in advance required refundable until two weeks before the start date
in case of cancellation on either side.

Five day workshop

2010

Provisional dates June 21- 25th
10.30 - 4.30

The five day course aims to be tailored to more specific individual interests.

Two to three days will be spent learning simple screen printing, transfer printing and painting techniques followed by 2/3 days spent on a personal project which will be devised during the week.

The timetable will be flexible to allow participants to achieve their own goals in discussion with Carole. Students are invited to bring portfolios to discuss their work with the tutor and group.

This workshop is also useful for teachers with no previous experience,as the techniques are inexpensive to set up and highly applicable for use in schools.

 

£375 including lunch and basic materials.
30% deposit £125 to secure your booking on a first come first served basis.
Deposit refundable until 2 weeks before start date in case of cancellation on either side

Balance due 2 weeks before start date
Fabrics will be available for sale.

Maximum student numbers will be 4. Within the studio space there is an inspirational collection of books, a gallery containing many examples of Carole's work, along with ceramics by Gary Wood and a hillside garden.

The studio is a simple converted double garage in the garden with two print tables
3+4metres long.

 

Payment terms: 5 day course: A non refundable deposit of £125 is payable on booking and the balance or payment in full is required 2 weeks before the start of the course

Deposits and payments are refundable until 2 weeks before start date in case of cancellation on either side .

Course places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Teachers Workshops

Special training workshops for teachers are available on request – which will enable the introduction of screenprinting on any surfaces into an art department simply and at low cost

It is also possible to use the studio & materials with guidance, by arrangement
